Archival Clippings

Where tumultuous relations between ethnic groups were concerned, no area of the Kootenay was free of conflict. The specific response to immigrant people might differ, but the general reactions stemmed from misunderstanding and prejudices against anything new or unfamiliar.

The stories highlighted here are not meant to demean or defame these Kootenay towns. They are simply presented to show what can occur when prejudice is allowed to inform and influence relations between groups.

Simply click on the name bars to view historical material from each of these towns.
