Closed for the season.
Watch for news of Spooktacular on October 26th & Christmas Special Events we are now planning.

It is with great pleasure that the Board of Directors welcomes Mr. Kevin D. Brown as the Society’s new Executive Director. After an extensive recruitment process, Mr. Brown was selected from a strong field of candidates. Kevin D Brown is a designer, builder, manager and heritage professional with 20 years experience in historic sites. He worked initially as a furniture conservator in Barkerville Historic Town, where he then became a historic carpenter and interpreter. During his heritage career, he worked in a full range of duties, including special events, building and furniture restoration and reproduction, program development, and management.

He restored Haig-Brown House on Vancouver Island and crafted education programs there and at Fort Steele, where he also built the McBride Hardware Store, by hand, with a small crew. Kevin then moved to the world of modern construction, residential and commercial, and became a Passive House designer, working collaboratively to design and build some of Alberta’s first Certified Passive House projects. “The Board feels fortunate to have found a person of Mr. Brown’s calibre and experience to take the helm of Fort Steele as our new Executive Director.

While Kevin only started in his new position on May 8th, he has hit the ground running and we have noticed an immediate positive impact on our operations” said Kevin Weaver, Chair of the Board. Mr. Brown holds a BA in Canadian History, focusing on contact, First Nations and early settlement, a post graduate diploma in Heritage Building Restoration, and a Master’s Degree in Environmental Design: Industrial Design. He and his family recently moved back to Kimberley, and is very keen on being a part of the reinvigoration of Fort Steele Heritage Town and reconnecting with the community of the East Kootenays.

Kevin can be contacted at exec.director@fortsteele.bc.ca or by calling 250-417-6000.
