Updates to our Membership and Society

Hey there!

We have some exciting updates to share with you. As of April 29, 2024, the Friends of Fort Steele Society has adopted a new set of bylaws. These new bylaws clarify the membership process, outline the different classes of membership available, and establish new rules to help avoid potential conflicts of interest.

Membership Classes

Under the new bylaws, we now offer two classes of membership: Voting Membership and Non-Voting Membership. Both classes allow you to attend society events, including general meetings and the annual general meeting. Plus, you’ll receive bi-annual newsletters/updates and have the opportunity to support our special events, fundraising efforts, and projects.

Voting Membership

  • Privileges: Vote at all general meetings, including the annual general meeting. Eligible to be considered for a director position on the board.

Non-Voting Membership

  • Privileges: Attend society events and receive updates, but cannot vote or be considered for board positions.
  • Purpose: Designed for Society employees, private businesses, associations, and other organizations to participate without potential conflicts of interest.

Become a Volunteer

Volunteers are the backbone of the Friends of Fort Steele Society. Without your support, we couldn’t operate Fort Steele or host the various events throughout the year. In fact, the Society was founded in 1987 to provide dedicated volunteers for heritage conservation and enjoyment at Fort Steele Heritage Town.

There are many ways to volunteer:

  • Livestock and Heritage Gardening
  • Baking and Heritage Trades
  • Special Events (e.g., Spooktakular)
  • Behind-the-Scenes Support (fundraising, special projects)

Our goal is to ensure that volunteering at Fort Steele is a meaningful experience and makes you feel like a valued part of our community. You don’t have to be a member to volunteer, but we’d love for you to consider becoming one too!

To apply as a volunteer, download the application [here](Volunteer Application).

Thank you for your continued support and involvement. We look forward to seeing you at Fort Steele!
